Nitrogen generators

Nitrogen produced on site for your industrial processes

NOVAIR offers on-site nitrogen solutions covering the widest range of technologies in the world: PSA generators, modular PSA generators and membrane generators, which offer solutions adapted to all nitrogen needs: small, medium and large flows, medium, high and very high purity.

  • Flow : From 0.5 to 640 m3/h
  • Purity : From 10 ppm to 3 vol% residual oxygen

No matter what technology is used, NOVAIR nitrogen generators guarantee users a full autonomy in their nitrogen supply. This means no more recurrent gas deliveries, no more logistical and administrative constraints, and permanent availability of gas, produced on the user's site, on demand.

Our range of Nitrogen Generators

The challenges of nitrogen supply

Companies using industrial nitrogen face several major constraints:

  • High costs: Purchase, transport, storage and rental of cryogenic cylinders or tanks.
  • Dependence on suppliers: Delivery times, price fluctuations and risk of shortages.
  • Logistical and safety issues: Handling of pressurized cylinders, need for suitable storage.
  • Environmental impact: Emissions linked to transport.

The NOVAIR solution: on-site nitrogen production

A nitrogen generator enables companies to:

  • Produce their own nitrogen: No more deliveries and complete autonomy.
  • Realize significant savings: Production cost much lower than buying bottles or tanks.
  • Secure their supply: Nitrogen available at any time, without interruption.
  • Optimize their management: No more ordering, storing or handling cylinders.
  • Reduce their carbon footprint: No more deliveries and optimized energy consumption.

How a nitrogen generator works

The air we breathe contains around 78% nitrogen. To exploit it effectively, it needs to be isolated from other air components, such as oxygen, humidity or fine particles. This is precisely what a nitrogen generator does, ensuring local, continuous production of the gas from ambient air. There are two main nitrogen generation technologies:

  • The PSA (Pressure Swing Adsorption) nitrogen generator
  • The membrane nitrogen generator

The PSA nitrogen generator

The PSA process is based on a pressure swing adsorption system. It consists of two tanks containing a molecular sieve (activated carbon) capable of capturing oxygen and other gases present in the air. Under pressure, nitrogen is filtered and collected, while the other gases are retained by the sieve.
The cycle operates in alternation: when one tank is saturated, the other takes over, while the first regenerates, releasing the captured gases. This automated process produces high-purity nitrogen, ideal for applications requiring high levels of quality.

The membrane nitrogen generator

In contrast to PSA technology, the membrane generator uses a bundle of hollow fibers to separate the components from the air. As they pass through the membrane, oxygen, water vapor and other gases rapidly pass through the fibers, while nitrogen remains confined and is recovered at the system outlet.

Compact and fast, this type of generator is particularly suited to needs requiring continuous production with moderate purity requirements.

Advantages of a nitrogen generator:

  • Gas available 24/7: Nitrogen is produced continuously, guaranteeing immediate availability at all times.
  • Continuous production: no supply delays: No need to wait for deliveries, nitrogen is generated instantly as needed.
  • Assured purity:The generator allows total control of gas quality, according to specific application requirements.
  • Enhanced safety: The absence of pressurized cylinder storage considerably reduces the risks associated with handling and transporting gas.
  • Demonstrated cost savings: Eliminating delivery, storage and rental costs results in a rapid return on investment and reduced operating costs.
  • No logistical constraints: No more need to manage stocks, deliveries or gas orders, greatly simplifying supply management.
  • No risk of supply shortages: Nitrogen is produced on site according to demand, eliminating any risk of shortages.
  • Eco-responsible solution: 0 delivery & 0 pollutant emissions: By eliminating transport and reducing bottle-related waste, the nitrogen generator helps to reduce the carbon footprint.

The applications of nitrogen generators

Nitrogen, a gas naturally present in the atmosphere, is widely used in industry for various applications such as laser cutting, modified atmosphere packaging and inerting. Our nitrogen generators are suitable for many industrial sectors:

  • Food industry: Nitrogen is an effective and economical solution, without additives, to stop bacterial growth, reduce oxidation, preserve product taste and texture, extend shelf life and improve freshness appearance.
  • Laser cutting: The use of nitrogen as an inert assist gas is essential to guarantee optimal laser cutting and fully exploit the machine's performance.
  • Electronics: Nitrogen creates an inert atmosphere during the manufacture of printed circuit boards and electronic components, improving product quality and reducing oxidation-related defects.
  • Brewery: Nitrogen is used in brewing to create a stable, creamy head, improve beer texture and preserve its aromas by limiting oxidation.
  • Oil & Gas: Nitrogen is an ideal gas for pressurizing oil wells, as it increases productivity while preventing corrosion of drilling pipes, unlike carbon dioxide.
  • Wine-making: Nitrogen is commonly used in wineries at various stages of production, such as sparging, blanketing and flushing, to limit enzymatic oxidation, inhibit bacterial growth and preserve wine from oxidation.
  • Laboratory: Laboratories require high-purity nitrogen for many scientific and analytical applications.
